Job Description:
Must haves:
Experience with Lean and Six Sigma.
Experience in the fabrication (grinding, polishing, etc.) of conventional optical components strongly desired.
Strong manufacturing management experience.

Summary:
The position is responsible for providing leadership to the manufacturing organization by planning, directing and coordinating all manufacturing operations.

Position Functions:
- Accomplish organizational goals by increasing throughput, reducing inventory, and lowering costs through leadership, communication, feedback and identifying/solving problems.
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance Manager to establish manufacturing quality standards, methods, procedures, and policies by studying product requirements, obtaining engineering input, and initializing/implementing corrective actions. Implement quality systems on the shop floor. Communicate with customers on quality issues.
- Establish organizational structure by assigning responsibilities, delegating authority, and recruiting/training employees. Appraise performance, coach/counsel and discipline employees and answer grievances.
- Develop production plan by coordinating requirements with sales, engineering, procurement, and production control. Successfully complete the production plan by establishing priorities, monitoring progress, scheduling activities, revising schedules and resolving problems.
- Ensure operation of equipment, establish preventative maintenance, maintain equipment and evaluate new equipment.
- Achieve financial objectives by preparing the manufacturing and maintenance budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and compiling/studying costs.
- Achieve program, technical, schedule and cost goals by leading manufacturing programs, providing expert program/technical input, interfacing with customers, developing & implementing the program plan, and overseeing the design and fabrication of tooling and equipment to support each program.
- Improve manufacturing productivity by performing manufacturing engineering in the production areas, devising tooling and processes to accomplish specific manufacturing tasks, choosing the best equipment and researching and selecting new equipment. Drive continuous improvement using Lean and Six Sigma tools/concepts.
- Maintain and professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, seminars, and other facility visits, reviewing publications and belonging to professional organizations.
- Ensure a safe workplace by working with the EH&S team to implement programs.
 
Skill Sets:
Requirements:
- BS Optical or Mechanical Engineering, or Physics. MBA a plus.
- 10 years progressive experience in management/supervision of optics fabrication.
- Experience with Lean and Six Sigma processes.
- Thorough understanding of facility and manufacturing equipment.
- General understanding of HR management functions.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Computer skills.
